A Step Forward for Safety in Malton

Malton, an integral part of Mississauga, may soon take an important step toward enhanced community safety with discussions underway for a potential police sub-station in the area. While no details have been finalized, Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah has identified this as a key priority, underscoring the need for better police presence in Malton, which he described as “without a doubt underserved.”

The concept being explored includes a “dual-purpose facility” at or near Pearson Airport, with further discussions scheduled between Peel police leadership and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority in December. This marks a meaningful move toward addressing Malton’s longstanding concerns around safety and access to police services.

Unlike Peel’s five existing operational divisions — 11 and 12 divisions in Mississauga, 21 and 22 divisions in Brampton, and the Pearson Airport Division — any new sub-station in Malton would be significantly smaller. Ideally, the facility would house 30-40 officers, providing a local presence that has been lacking for far too long.

As Councillor for Ward 5, advocating for enhanced services in Malton has been one of my top priorities. The community has consistently highlighted safety and accessibility to law enforcement as critical needs, and these discussions reflect the significant progress we have made in bringing these concerns to light.

While the proposal is still in its early stages, it represents a step in the right direction. A dedicated sub-station in Malton would provide not only increased safety but also a greater sense of support and visibility for residents.

I remain committed to ensuring that Malton gets the resources it needs to thrive. This potential facility is a direct response to the voices of the community, and I will continue to work with stakeholders to see this progress through. Malton deserves equitable access to services, and this initiative is an encouraging move toward achieving that goal.
