Historic Moment: All-Girls Robotics Team Honoured at City Council

I had the incredible honor of welcoming an exceptional group of young women to City Hall: an all-girls robotics team from Peel Region, who recently made history as the first Canadian team to win a world robotics championship.

Their achievement is nothing short of extraordinary. Competing against teams from across the globe, these bright and determined young women demonstrated not only technical expertise but also creativity, resilience, and teamwork. Their victory is a testament to what can happen when passion meets opportunity.

At City Council, the team shared their inspiring journey, from the challenges they faced to the breakthroughs that propelled them to victory. Listening to their story, I was reminded of the boundless potential of our youth and the importance of creating spaces where they can thrive—particularly in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, where young women are often underrepresented.

As a city, we are committed to supporting initiatives that foster innovation and empower our youth. The team’s achievement serves as a powerful example of what young people in our community can accomplish when given the tools and encouragement to dream big.

On behalf of the City of Mississauga, the mayor and I presented the team with a certificate of recognition for their outstanding achievement and for inspiring so many in our community. Their success is not just theirs; it is a victory for all of us, as it showcases the incredible talent that exists right here in Mississauga.

These young women are not just champions; they are role models. They have paved the way for future generations of girls to see themselves as innovators, leaders, and problem-solvers.
