As the Councillor for Ward 5, I have the privilege of connecting with the incredible local businesses that shape our community. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Honey Soul Food, located at 5977 Dixie Road, a Black-owned restaurant that has become a beloved part of Ward 5.

Honey Soul Food was recently awarded a grant from the Black Opportunity Fund’s Black Food Sovereignty and Energy Restaurant Grant 2024. This grant is a significant step in supporting Black-owned restaurants, providing resources to help them grow and flourish.
During my visit, I had the chance to enjoy their famous cornbread—a dish that perfectly embodies their dedication to quality and flavor. Each bite was a testament to the care and passion that goes into everything they create. While my visit was brief, it was clear that Honey Soul Food is more than a restaurant; it’s a place where culture, community, and culinary excellence come together.

This grant will allow Honey Soul Food to upgrade their equipment, strengthen their online presence, and continue to provide exceptional service to their customers. Programs like the Black Opportunity Fund are essential in creating opportunities for businesses like Honey Soul Food to thrive, and I’m thrilled to see their contributions recognized and supported.
I encourage everyone to visit Honey Soul Food and experience their menu firsthand. Supporting local businesses like this not only strengthens our community but also celebrates the diversity and vibrancy that make Ward 5 so special.
Congratulations to the team at Honey Soul Food on this well-deserved recognition. I look forward to seeing them grow and succeed in the years to come.
